MUMBAI: After the media blitzkrieg surrounding her arrest, former bar dancer Tarannum is now bracing for a film on her life.Tarannum has sworn to make things difficult for and take legal action against Ranjeet Sharma, who has just announced that he would make the film. Speaking to TOI, the former bar girl asked: "How much do they know about me and my life to make a film on me? They should have at least consulted me before announcing the film.
Do they know the kind of struggle I have gone through?"
Starlet Preetti Jain, who claimed that she had met and befriended Tarannum in jail, will be playing the title role. When asked if Jain had spoken to her before signing the film, Tarannum said: "She only told me a film was offered to her but she did not tell me about signing the film." Tarannum also added that she did not consider Jain a friend. "I have met her only twiceonce while I was in jail and the second time when she came home on the day I was released from prison."Jain, however, clarified that the film was merely "inspired" by Tarannum's life. "It is a sympathetic protayal of the lives of bar girls. Besides, I am her friend and would not hurt her in any way. I know the entire story of the film and there is nothing in the film that is demeaning or negative about her."Director Sharma admitted he had not taken Tarannum's consent before announcing the film. But he too clarified that the film was "not exactly on her life, but I will be using some stock shots of Tarannum's arrest." On her part, Tarannum said, she was merely trying to get her life back on track after spending months in police custody for alleged involvement in a betting scam. "They are not letting me be, I have become the cynosure of all eyes. Often there are people standing outside my house and discussing me. I am really tired of it, sometimes I feel like selling this house and going away, but I have nothing left. My accounts have been frozen and I can't even start my shop so that I could fill the stomach of six other people from my family who are dependent on me," she said. The former bar dancer's prospects of appearing in films also appear to be fading. When asked about the film which was to be produced by Nitin Manmohan for which she had been reportedly approached, the former bar girl seemed taken aback. She refused to discuss the matter and said: "Let's not talk about the film."
